Recently, we completed a CCTV project for a newly developed park in Kowloon. Installation, testing and handover have been finished, and the system went into operation with the park’s opening, providing video monitoring of public areas and supporting day-to-day management and incident follow-up when required.
A park is different from an indoor site. The area is open, paths are spread out, visitors use it during the day, and staffing is limited at night and after closing. Outdoor equipment also has to withstand sun, rain and changing light over long periods.
Planning was therefore based on how the park opens and how people move through it, before camera positions were decided. Coverage was focused on the main entrances, path junctions, plazas and public facilities.
Outdoor installation also has to allow for day, night and weather. Strong daylight, backlight at dusk and low light at night all affect whether an image is usable. Lamp posts, fences and landscape structures limit cabling and mounting height. Camera positions avoid obstruction by tree canopies and canopies, and night images still need to be usable, not only clear in the daytime. Fixing and cabling also take waterproofing and wind into account, to reduce loosening or water ingress after long outdoor use.
Our team handled the project throughout, from site survey and planning, equipment installation and fixing, signal and power cabling, and system configuration, to testing, picture adjustment and an operation briefing before handover. The deployment included:
- coverage of entrances, path junctions, plazas and the perimeter of facilities, so daytime pedestrian flow and activity areas can be followed;
- allowance for outdoor day and night lighting, so images remain usable at night and after closing;
- live multi-view at the management point, with remote viewing provided as required, so duty staff can retrieve images;
- fixing, cabling and protection suited to outdoor conditions, to reduce loosening or water ingress from wind, sun and rain;
- day and night testing of pictures, recording and login before handover, to confirm that coverage and retrieval meet the park’s management needs.
Once the system is in use, management staff can build it into the daily routine. Live views can support patrols during the day and show conditions at the entrances. At night and after closing, recordings can be checked if someone may have entered a restricted area. If there is damage, a dispute, or a need to keep a record during an event period, footage can be retrieved by time as a reference for internal follow-up.
This project again applies CCTV to an outdoor public recreation site. For CCTV installation, system upgrades or maintenance at parks, sports venues, residential estates, schools, construction sites or other outdoor locations, please contact us. We can propose a solution based on the site, opening hours and how it is managed.
